How we work
Our plant-care standards.
Useful advice should be specific, checkable, and honest about what has—and has not—been tested.
Research and sourcing
We prioritise university extension resources, botanical institutions, product instructions, and official animal-safety references for plant-care and toxicity claims. Where a recommendation depends on the species, cultivar, room, season, pot, or soil, we state that limitation rather than presenting one routine as universal.
Accuracy and uncertainty
Houseplants respond differently to light, water, temperature, soil, and root condition. Symptoms such as yellow leaves can have multiple causes, so our guides offer diagnostic checks rather than promising a single explanation. Measurements from phone apps are described as approximate unless a method and its accuracy are independently established.
First-hand experience and images
We do not claim to have tested a plant, measured a room, or used a product unless that experience has actually been documented. Where first-hand evidence would improve an article, we identify the kind of photo, measurement, or observation that should be added. Illustrative imagery must not be described as a personal test.
Animal safety
Pet-toxicity descriptions link to the ASPCA's plant database where possible. Common plant names may be ambiguous; readers should confirm the scientific name and contact a veterinarian or animal poison-control service after a suspected ingestion. Our content is not a substitute for veterinary advice.
Corrections and updates
If a reader identifies an error or an outdated reference, we review the claim and correct it when warranted. Material changes should be reflected in the article's updated date. Use the Sources & corrections page to understand the role of external references.
Commercial relationships
LowLight Leaves may eventually use display ads and affiliate links for plant-care products. We will disclose relevant commercial relationships and aim to keep product links separate from the underlying care guidance. See our affiliate disclosure.
Author and qualifications
Articles are published under the byline of Pure Light. The site does not claim formal horticultural or veterinary credentials. Readers should seek qualified local advice where a plant health issue, pest treatment, animal exposure, or other situation requires specialist help.
